The “Joint Municipal Companies Donau-Ries Clinics and Retirement Homes (gKU)” comprise four nursing homes and three hospitals in the South German district of Donau-Ries. Next to the retirement home in the city of Rain am Lech also a sheltered accommodation for the elderly is operated. This accommodation offers a sheltered housing with senior-friendly and barrier-free facilities as well as a thoughtful service concept for seniors within a spacious green area.
The access to the individual housing units is carried out on each floor via an external corridor. In order to execute corridor and staircase weatherproof, an enclosure in the form of a gallery was created. For this housing Butzbach supplied the curtain wall system VARIOPLANplus. The fibreglass elements protect the tenants reliably against weather and looks from the outside. At the same time they allow the natural daylight to be spread softly and glare-free into the entire corridor.
The access gallery is pleasantly lit with natural daylight and artificial lighting can be dispensed with during the day.
VARIOPLANplus combines a very good thermal insulation value with an effective limitation of heat input into the corridors. This means: In cold temperatures the warmth is kept inside whereas in direct sunlight the corridors do not heat up unpleasantly. When accessing their housing units the seniors are facing a pleasant climatic atmosphere with balanced temperatures at any season.
Age-appropriate access doors as well as vertical glazed bands were integrated into the façade. Via tophung windows the gallery can be regularly ventilated with fresh air. The material fibreglass emphasizes the modern and timeless architecture of the residential complex. In combination with the façade colours red and white a friendly and welcoming building complex was created.
